Human Touch II

5.5×7.5 ft waterbased printing ink on stonehenge paper

2014

I wanted to revisit my previous concept of the human touch and animal population for another project…and this time on a much larger scale. Instead of using fingerprints, i decided to use handprints. Because of this i had to go much larger, my final image is 5.5×7.5 feet.

To reiterate, Amur Leopards are critically endangered with an estimated of only 30 left remaining in the wild. Likewise to the use of fingerprints in my previous piece, i chose handprints because humans play a big part in this species population decrease. It’s the human touch that destroys habitats and kills these animals for their exotic furs. Likewise, the human hand plays a part in rebuilding the population…though it’s a slow process, similar to placing one handprint on paper at a time. It starts off slow, and gradually builds up. It may not be noticeable right away, or from a distance…but when you get close enough, you can see the effort that is put into it.
